Watch :: Bleeding Heart Pigeons - They’re Cutting Down The Old Oak Tree
Directed and edited by the band, Bleeding Heart Pigeons unveil the video for new single 'They’re Cutting Down The Old Oak Tree', out on May 27 via Virgin EMI Records.
A bittersweet and evocative requiem to earlier adventures under the tree of the title (“They’re cutting down the old oak tree/they’re gonna build a Tesco there…”) the song is taken from the Limerick trio’s acclaimed debut album 'Is', which is set for release on May 20.
The release of the single is preceded by a UK tour with Andrew Bird that includes a date at London’s Roundhouse on May 4.
The video for 'They’re Cutting Down The Old Oak Tree' provides a suitably atmospheric counterpart. The band’s Mícheál Keating explains: “Because the song is about cutting down an oak tree and putting a building in its place, we thought for the video it would be nice to have a look at a different part of the story; when the building is deserted and becomes derelict, and sometimes, overgrown and reclaimed by the wild. So we shot it in a few eerily pretty abandoned spaces, of varying degrees of dereliction.”
