Formed last year, High Wycombe indie rock quartet We're Only Sun wasted no time in quickly putting out their four-track eponymous debut EP last April.
Now all aged 22, Only Sun have been playing together since they were 17 - then known under the name Havana. "Last year, we decided that we wanted to dedicate more time and effort to the band in order to see what we could achieve," guitarist Ed Miguens tells us. "We've now all finished our university careers and are gearing up to fully focus on writing and performing music."
Now, Only Sun - who say they been strongly influenced by indie rock artists like The Strokes, The Libertines and Arcade Fire - follow that with new track 'Overcome', released last week. "'Overcome' is about being dragged into the mundane life of a daily routine and vowing to find a way to escape the shackles of modern day life," says Miguens.
"Our sound reflects the music that we grew up with during the late noughties and highlights the polarising emotions of growing up."
There's an effervescent energy to Only Sun, that bubbles on 'Overcome' on Euan Bryden's vocals and skipping beats, and is in a lighter, more indie pop style compared to some of their earlier material which straddles the rock borders. Personally, I think their metier lies in their pop sensibilities, so it will be interesting to see where this band go next.
