Listen :: Icelandic act Kaleo go from volcanoes to Nashville to a sell-out London show
Words: Ellie Ward
There's more to Iceland than just Björk, Sigur Rós, Of Monsters and Men, whales, volcanoes (and not a half bad international football team). The alt-rock foursome Kaleo may be better known outside of their home territory in the US more than the UK, where there blues-rock-Americana sound has started to make inroads.
After putting out an Icelandic record in 2013, they decamped to Austin, Texas, recording official debut album, 'A/B', in Nashville, with their music subsequently featuring on the HBO Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese produced series Vinyl, and was included on the soundtrack, whilst single, 'Way Down We Go' has been used in soundtracks and promos for shows such as Orange Is The New Black and Empire - the video to which was filmed inside a volcano.
'A/B', produced by Jacquire King (Kings of Leon), snd released last month via Elektra/Atlantic, is a mix of Southern style influences, from folk Americana to blues rock. The band also pay tribute to their homeland with an Icelandic song, a haunting ballad called 'Vor í Vaglaskogi'.
Kaleo play a sold out London show this Saturday, July 9, at Dingwalls (w/Broken Witt Rebels). After North American dates across the rest of the summer, they return in November to play the following UK and European shows:
