New Sounds #107 October 23 2016
THE TAPES - YOU KNOW IT'S REAL
Following their debut single ‘At All’ (which has racked up near on 2 million plays), Sydney duo Mickey Kojak and Andrew Grant drop this new single, taken from their self-titled debut EP, out November 11 via Nook Nook Records. The unbelievably high falsetto vocal and driving pulse behind along with analogue synths and chillwave beats make for a foot-tapper of a listen. Star rating: ★★★☆☆
DEEP SEA ARCADE - LEARNING TO FLY
Released on October 14, the lead single from the second album (due early 2017) and the first new music in over four years since their 2012 debut album 'Outlands'. The track melds the psychedelia-influenced groove of the band's debut record with newer electronic influences. Star rating: ★★☆☆☆
THE RPMs - I KNOW IT'S STUPID BUT I THINK IT'S LOVE
Out November 11 from the Brighton trio, the second track from their debut EP ‘Digital Disobedience’. Punchy pop three minutes with youthful verve. A band with potential, and already a favourite with 6Music's Steve Lamacq. Star rating: ★★★★☆
THE MEGAPHONIC THRIFT - HENDENE
Last featured by Little Indie way back in 2012 with 'Moonstruck', the four Norwegians (who include members of The Low Frequency in Stereo and Casiokids) from Bergen return with this track from their upcoming LP, 'Få meg til verden i tide', out on November 11 via Old Flame Records. Four minutes of crashing, atmospheric noise rock. Star rating: ★★☆☆☆
STALGIA - HEAVEN + MIMOSAS
Hazy electro-pop from the LA duo's follow-up to 'In The Trees', released last week. Lauren Day and Brandon Leslie create a woozy partnership of R&B and downtempo lush electronica. Star rating: ★★★☆☆
