New Sounds #118 November 24 2016
MICHELLES - ALL IS FORGIVEN
Not too prolific Chicago psych-poppers Michael Dalaigh, Ryan Farnham and Benjamin Balcom, follow their self-titled album of 2013 and last year's 'Everybody Knows' with another touch of their dreamy 70s inspired groove on this new single. Star rating: ★★☆☆☆
ROLE - UNSTAINED
Originally from Madrid, now London-based, electronic outfit follow April's single release 'Still Mine' with this post trip-hop cut, with a gentle touch of witch-house, and ethereal vocals taken from their new EP 'Blurry' out this week. Star rating: ★★★☆☆
THE Y AXES - UMBRA
San Francisco-based alt-synthpop-rock quartet share single, and title track, cut off their forthcoming album, out on November 26. Alexi Rose Belchere delivers high-ranging delicate vocals on the song that is about "struggling with depression, and about trying to bear some of that overwhelming sadness for the people you love." Star rating: ★★☆☆☆
DRUZY - HOW YOU FEEL
Released last week, sultry R&B tinged electro-pop from the LA duo, Brianna Conroy and Luc Alexiades, following up 'Can You Hear Me Knocking'. Star rating: ★★★☆☆
CUT OFF YOUR HANDS - HATE SOMEBODY
Don't be misled by band name and track title, these Kiwi dudes are far from being any kind of heavy death metallers. The Auckland four-piece sport a line in catchy, alt-pop nu wave, channelling a Talking Heads/Franz Ferdinand vibe. Star rating: ★★★★☆
