New Sounds #127 December 21 2016
GALLERY CIRCUS - THE FLOOD
Released December 9, infectious indie rock via identical twins Daniel and Graeme Ross. The follow-up single to ‘Club House Killer’, the duo now return with a brand new track of high energy, pacey beat, thrashing riffs and distinctive vocal, that build to an intense, pummelling climax. Star rating: ★★★☆☆
THE KARMA REPAIR KIT - MOODSWINGER
The Bristol alt-rock/grunge quartet leave a stain of gloom with this new single released last week through Gravy Train Recordings, and the first single from their upcoming EP due next year. Opening up on the dark themes of the song, singer Jamie Thomas says "I felt the instrumentation evoked a sense of discomfort, uneasiness and deadly feelings like guilt and self-loathing. When writing the lyrics, these ideas became more specifically about the feeling of knowing someone intimately, whether in a romantic context or not, and gradually realising that you might not really know that person at all". Star rating: ★★★☆☆
TIDELINES - WASTING
South East London synthpop duo,
Niomi and Kailin, follow their EP, ‘Dream’, with this latest single of ambient dark electronica and fragile R'n'B vocals with spacey production provided by Kailin create a hazy sound palette. Star rating: ★★★☆☆
TEN FÉ - BORN SLIPPY.NUXX
With their debut album, 'Hit The Light', due for release on February 3 2017 through Some Kinda Love/[PIAS], Ten Fé recorded a cover of Underworld’s ‘Born Slippy.NUXX’. The London-based duo, Ben Moorhouse and Leo Duncan, have taken the original dance track and refashioned it into an emotive indie rock tune. Star rating: ★★★★☆
SHY LUV - PHARAOHS
Another cover, another London duo: Sam Knowles (aka acclaimed producer Karma Kid) and producer Jake Norman (aka Armeria). They follow their own recent 'Joyrider' with a rework of SBTRKT's track and give the track a beat-driven and infectious synth-funk spin. Star rating: ★★★☆☆
