London-based singer-songwriter and producer Francesca Bergami, aka Lyves, is finally here with her much-anticipated debut EP, ‘Like Water’. For those unfamiliar, Lyves has been on the music scene for a few years now following the release of ‘Visions’ on Soundcloud back in 2015. 2016 saw the release of singles ‘Darkest Hour’ and ‘No Love’, which received a whole lot of love from the blogging community and huge radio support - and no doubt will again with their inclusion here.
The EP, which was co-produced with Atu (of the newly-formed group Sonder), consists of four tracks, the first of which is the aforementioned ‘Darkest Hour’. Offering an impeccable start to a debut EP, it's electronic soul at its best, and Lyves’ vocals seem pure and effortless. The critically acclaimed ‘No Love’, which feels somewhat minimal, is calming but big, with well placed catchy beats and guitar riffs, and again, those great vocals set it off perfectly.
‘The Weather’ demonstrates delicate drums and strings that build suspense and gathers momentum throughout the track. And, finally ‘Free’, which feels a little more upbeat to the other tracks; a continual build of synths and effects paired with the vocals making a winning combination.
All in all, Lyves offers a small collection that is geared to win hearts. Each track provides an atmosphere that you can’t really explain. It's raw, emotional, but all together it makes a work that is going to be as far as possible from Lyves' darkest hour.
