Track Of The Day :: PETS - Colours
Words: Ellie Ward
Released last Friday (June 23), 'Colours' is four minutes of bright, summery and hypnotic electro pop. But let's be honest, eh, didn't you just think by the picture above that PETS would be more inclined to a touch of hardcore? Or some thrashing punk? Never judge a band by its image, may be the motto here.
The Portsmouth-based four-piece follow up their debut single 'If It’s For Sale' - which came out late last year - with this new piece of infectiously vibrant pop, that oozes not just the kind of vocal from Sam McCarthy that you want to hear more of, but a bundle of catchy guitar riffs and melodies to hum along to.
“’Colours’ is a song about how everyone can feel a little out of place sometimes,” says McCarthy. “We maybe change our behaviour, to the people we are around or the places/situations we are in. Sometimes it can be something ever so slight, like a tiny change in accent or slang. Like the chameleon, we adapt to our background. I feel everyone does this, at least a little. ‘Colours’ is about trying to find that time or place, when you aren’t trying to be anyone else but yourself.“
