Track Of The Day :: Swine Tax - Brittle
Words: Linn Branson
One of the perils of submitting tracks with private links is that we can't immediately use it, and it then gets forgotten about or deleted. One such that fell prey was 'Brittle', released last month, by Newcastle-based melancholic alt-rock band Swine Tax. Late maybe, but the structure is interesting and we like it hence its inclusion now. Better late than never, as they say!
The second single by the trio - following this April's debut 'Chronic' - 'Brittle' is led by guitarist Vince Lisle's rather intriguing vocal style and the guitar riffs that zip and bound all over the place. Considering it lyrically expresses "crushing self inadequacy and debilitating insecurity within an intimate relationship", the melodies to 'Brittle' are uplifting and consistently buoyant through its four and a half minutes.
