Best new tracks coming up from Down Under #5

With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.

TIMI TEMPLE - WHERE DID THE GOOD GUY GO

The Sydney artist returns after last year's 'Sands Of Time' with his latest cut of psychedelic electronica, self-released on February 9. Plenty of fuzz and a relentless driving beat work in with soaring vocals.

BLAIRE - YOUTH

New single (via GD FRNDS) from the Gold Coast trio, who belt out three-minutes of punk-gaze with some sweltering tonal shifts. Vocalist Ben Stagg says the song is about "natural repetition - sometimes certain feelings or emotions can feel like Groundhog Day (or year) especially in your youth. This is the sonic translation of that idea."

THE LITTLE GUY - NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU

We don't know much about this Sydney indie-pop quartet fronted by David Messer. But this latest track - which meanders along with Messer's spoken word type vocal and intriguing storyline - uploaded online is enough to raise a smile and worth a listen.

JUST ABOUT DONE - HELPLESS HANDS

Latest single, released January 19, from the Melbourne alt-pop-punk quintet helmed by Samantha McGee. The band say this represents a shift in style for them, having experimented with song structure after last year's EP 'Mindless'.

OSCAR OSCAR - YUIKA

Released January 25, the Brisbane artist follows last year's debut 'Hey Ho' with this number written during an extended stay in Japan. Delicate, falsetto vocal over a pared down beat, and fusing acoustic and synthetic elements.

MIDDLE KIDS - MISTAKE

Sydney indie-rockers follow their debut EP with a first full-length, 'Lost Friends', out May 4 on Domino, and this lead single is a propulsive and poppy, number with a big, sweeping chorus and filled out with dreamy guitars and distortion.
