Best new tracks Down Under #7
With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.
SEREIN - SLOW DANCE
Second single by Melbourne electronica-chillwave duo - vocalist Tiff Fung and producer Benny Boi - after 'Rest Of My Life'. Although released last year, the vid is new and this sultry vocalled, slow-burner with choppy beats is worth further attention.
STRAIGHT ARROWS - OUT & DOWN
First single of the year for the Sydney-based band with this reverb-laden, fuzzy psych-punk three minute ode to a friend’s recent coming out, released via Rice Is Nice.
GOOD DOOGS - NOTHING TO DO
Following last year's 'Life Is Messy' EP, Perth punk-surf trio return with some new beach-pop vibes on this gloriously catchy, lo-fi vocalled track.
HAZLETT - FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS
Brisbane singer-songwriter floats his unhurried, laid back vocal on this hauntingly intro'd new single, lyrically about disconnection, tolerance and human behaviour. “I was on the train and realised everyone just sits there, looks at their phone and doesn’t communicate. They get nervous around or put off by other people. We get scared of what we don’t understand, and it wouldn’t happen if we talked to each other more,” Hazlett explains.
BEST BETS - APRIL'S FOOL
Rangiora, NZ garage-punk four-piece share sub-three minute, energetic new single taken from their just released 'Life Under The Big Top' EP. Singer James Harding says the song is largely about "the absurdity of life as we know it. We like to think of it as searing and soaring emotional power pop that invokes the feeling of timeless cinema from the 1980s."
FLOWERTRUCK - ENOUGH FOR NOW
First single from the debut EP, 'Mostly Sunny', out March 16 through Spunk Records from the Sydney quartet. Smooth, sunny drifter of upbeat melodies built around a synth refrain and Charles Rushforth's Oz-flavoured vocal.
