10 Little Indie Hot Picks
Ten of the latest hot picks that have been rockin the player at Little Indie HQ over the last weeks.
COLOURING - TIME
First release since their 2017 EP, 'Heathen', out March 23 through Interscope. Jack Kenworthy pulls out the big vocals once again on this three-minute-plus indie pop number of catchy beats and sparkly melodies.
GRDNS - JUNIPER
Released via Dance to the Radio on March 20, the Bradford quartet follow February's 'Night Time', with this new five-minute reverb-filled track. Frontman Jacob Lyons says it "takes influence from both the modern and vintage surf sounds with a prog/alt section at the end, but doesn’t particularly sound like either. It was the first song we got together as a full band and the lyrics frequently reference the colour blue and a few of its colour palette relatives. The meaning of the song is open to interpretation, like all the rest will be."
JUDAS - BIG MOUTH
The Scouse-fronted, London-based rockers unveiled this latest single last week. Anthemic indie rock melds raw guitars with an interspersed reggae influence.
THE HAILS - YOUNGER
Fresh direction for the young five-piece from Gainesville, Florida. Recorded in Miami, it fuses elements of modern alt-rock and 70s breezy pop, helmed by laid-back vocals.
BLOOD BEACH - YOUR EYES
A sparse arrangement of soulful vocals melodies from the London duo - vocalist Lucy Hayes and producer Sleepy Eye - on this debut, which comes ahead of their EP out later this year. "Tell me lies / Tell me the tale in your eyes" is the repeated refrain that echoes through R&B vibes.
TROPIC - NO CIGAR
The follow up to last year's debut single ‘A Continuing Saga #3 (Deja Vu)’ from the Bristol trio, released last week via Bristol’s Leisure Records. Helmed by the vocals of Jack Ogborne, the track opens in a low-key way, before it moves into a flow of garage-rock stylings. "I wanted to write something romantic that wasn’t obviously romantic,” says Jack.
THE FONTAINES - BESO
Lush guitars open this latest release from the LA four-piece, with the the seductive vocals of Charlotte Fontaine coming in on a bed of psych-influenced alt-rock.
SMALL HOURS - SHOE BOX
London electronic duo, Alex Mills and Alex Patten, deliver a bass-driven groove on this debut track, with Mills' honeyed vocals providing a warm soulful touch.
SAVANNAH - COLD HEART
The Telford quartet released this new indie rock anthem on March 16. Produced by Gazz Rogers, it's a three-minute pop-rock singalong, with bellowing choruses, swift harmonies softened by streamlined guitars and a pounding bass riff.
SUZI ISLAND - SHOW ME THE WAY
Debut single - produced and mixed by The Vaccines' Pete Robertson - by Brighton-based 19-year-old duo, Hugh Reilly-Smith and Matthew Carter. Nice builder from the relatively quiet start, drawing in percussion, vocal harmonies and quirky rhythms.
