Best new tracks Down Under #11
With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.
BIG WHITE - RIGHT BEFORE EVERYTHING DIES
Currently in the US at SXSW, the Sydney five-piece offered this guitar-driven, retro Britpop 90s sounding new single before they left Oz, preceding their April dropping full-length.
THE HARPOONS - PRESSURE
The Melbourne quartet have their second album 'Amaro' out on April 13 via Caroline Australia, and this track from it sees them go for slow-burning sensuality, with pulsating shakers and layered marimbas augmenting Bec Rigby's sultry, jazzy vocals over electric piano chords and syncopated drums.
INDIAGO - GUSTO
Big, emotive anthemic rocker from the Adelaide quartet, with a raw, gutsy vocal from Will Solomon that gets straight to the heart.
FIGHT IBIS - WOOLLY BOP
Fast-paced, fuzzy garage-grooving psych from the Queensland psych-rockers ahead of their forthcoming debut EP release.
WAX CHATTELS - IN MY MOUTH
Auckland, NZ no-wave trio follow recent single 'Stay Disappointed' with another from their self-titled debut album, out May 18 via Flying Nun Records and Captured Tracks. Hypnotic scorcher of post-punk abandonment described as "our homage to Auckland's best dive bar."
BRITT RION - CHAOS & BEAUTY
Also from Auckland, ethereal vocals backed with an atmospheric array of electric guitar, synths, harmonic steel drums and a rhythmic metronome.
