Track Of The Day :: Nakhane - Interloper
Words: Sam Geary
Listening to 'Interloper' by London-based South African artist Nakhane, it's not surprising that he is fast coming to global attention. This track is taken from the forthcoming album 'You Will Not Die', which is released on March 16 via BMG.
The intriguingly vocalled, gospel-like stomper ‘Interloper’ began life in a very different form, and has become a soaring, multi-faceted alt-pop song, helmed by Nakhane's impressive voice.
“I spent about three years writing 'Interloper'," he says. "It first started out as a Pornography-era The Cure homage. Then it morphed into a slow, acoustic Iron & Wine thing. Ben Christophers (producer) and I decided to make it a stomp and a romp. Something that one could spin around to. Even though it's a song about irrational jealousy and anonymous sex.”
Nakhane plays a London headline show at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen on March 20.
What an incredible voice this guy has.
