ANIMAL HOUSE - NO MAMMA
Brighton-based Australian ex-pat five-piece unveiled this last Friday (May 4). Jangly, fun garage-pop, part of their 'Premium Mediocre' project, which will consist of 24 songs released fortnightly for a year.
SWEATY PALMS - TRANSIT PAUL
Released May 7 via Nice Swan Records, the Glasgow four-piece follow 'Captain Of The Rugby Tram' with another sharp taste of debut album, ‘Quit Now’, out June 8. “The anger comes from the rampant atmosphere of misogyny in our society… apathy, prejudice and discrimination in all its forms. To make music that doesn’t address this in some way would feel dishonest and pointless.” Catch live tonight (May 7) at The Fulford Arms in York, tomorrow at Newcastle's Arch Sixteen, and at the Alt Escape in Brighton on 18th.
JAGUAR BONES - OVER MY DEAD
Alt-indie LA-based pop trio made up of Londoner singer-songwriter frontman, Josh Beech and producer/songwriter team James and Joseph Dzuris, follow debut single 'Turn The Sky Gold' with this new track, released last week. An amalgamation of the trio’s influences from Detroit’s Motown roots, London’s alt music scene and LA’s coastal culture, with crisp production, and a polished sheen,
DEAR CAROLINE - IDLE TONGUE
New single from Manchester four-piece, fronted by brothers, Alfie and Joe Prior, who Little Indie first heard two years ago - then known as Violet Society. Again, this latest number showcases their energetic sound, primal rhythms, and intriguing lyrical vernacular.
SPORTS TEAM - KUTCHER
Premiered on Radio One last week by Huw Stephens, emerging North-West London-based sextet's ode to Ashton Kutcher, out on Nice Swan Records, follows the band’s ‘Winter Nets’ EP from January. Catch on May 18 at The Great Escape.
BLACK HONEY - BAD FRIENDS
The Brighton quartet adopt an electro-rock polish on this new single released last Friday. Infectious, propulsive track with Izzy B's haunting vocals helming the sub-three minute song.
A FESTIVAL, A PARADE - COLD SHOWER
Taken from the band's 'Stay Away From Me' EP, out later this year via Tipping Point Records, if you can get past the opening musical equivalent of nails on a board, or a dental drill, then this builds nicely into an darkly urgent, post-punk number from the Newcastle four-piece.
THE OLD PINK HOUSE - JADED
Also from Newcastle, there's more of an 80s alt-pop rock vibe with retro riffs and harmonies here compared to the above. From the outfit's forthcoming debut EP, “'Jaded' is about how things we go through wear us down," says frontman Christopher Brown. "The lyrics are shot through with that sense of cynicism, but at the same time I’m always trying to peel away at it as it traps us in a vicious cycle where we become more and more numb to everything around us."
DRAHLA - FICTIONAL DECISION
First single for Captured Tracks, Leeds post-punks deliver this dark, and shuddering track of (first heard back in 2016). Noisy guitars with hypnotic riffs and a heavy bassline back Luciel Brown’s eerie, muted vocal.
GRDNS - ROULETTE LOVE GUN
From the forthcoming EP, out this summer via Dance To The Radio, by the Bradford band featured on Little Indie's February Roundtable with 'Night Dance'. Drifting, hazy dream-psych, with reverb overlay and a surprisingly soulful vocal from Jacob Lyons.
