Q+A :: Bryde sits our Camden Rocks interview
London's Camden Rocks festival starts rockin' the streets of Camden once again on Saturday June 2.
If you still haven't got around to working out just who to see out of a wealth of both new and established artists filling out the line-up, we are suggesting a few names who we think are worth making the effort to see.
BRYDE
London-based, Welsh singer-songwriter Sarah Howells - aka Bryde - is a woman and an electric guitar playing fierce and fragile songs. Swaying from vulnerable to uncompromising within one verse and chorus, Bryde's music is honest and furiously authentic. Her debut solo album, ‘Like An Island’, was released last month via Seahorse Music.
Camden Rocks - this your first time 'rocking Camden'?
It is.
Do you have any special treats planned for your festival fans on the day?
We’ll be playing loads of songs from the album, mainly the heavier tracks.
What is your favourite song in your set?
Probably 'To Be Brave' because it moves from quiet and intimate to a dynamic and strong towards the end and finishes with this cacophony of noise. It’s uber intense and emotional.
Do you have a different focus playing festivals to a standard gig?
I chat a bit less so that we can play more songs and 'cos until people get to know me they don’t get my irony or self-deprecating humour.
Where will you be playing and time?
We’re at the Black Heart at 4.30pm.
What do you like best about festival gigs?
Being able to play to a new audience and meeting a bunch of other great bands.
Ever had a festival disaster?
Hmm... probably something involving a tent full of water, or almost suffocating in a tiny tent from Lidl.
Can you remember the first festival you ever went to as a punter?
Yes! Reading festival at 17. Still got really vivid memories of toilets being set on fire and re-applying kohl eyeliner every ten minutes.
Before or after the crowds catch your set at Camden Rocks, who else would be your festival must-see tip?
Sick Joy are really good, as are Rews.
Who else will you personally try and see on the day?
Hoping to catch Raging Speedhorn, Blood Red Shoes and Reigning Days.
