Track Of The Day :: Silverbacks - Dunkirk
Words: Ellie Ward
Marital woes are the subject matter of Dublin art-punks Silverbacks latest single 'Dunkirk', released last Friday (June 15) via their own PK Miami Records label.
Following last year’s ‘Sink The Fat Moon’ EP and single ‘Just for a Better View’, this latest track, produced by Girl Band’s Daniel Fox, is underpinned by Emma Hamlin's insistent bassline, Gary Wickham's metronome like drums, and layers of crawling guitars, which provide the backdrop for frontman Daniel O’Kelly’s stream of vocal consciousness and increasingly frazzled yelps before finally collapsing into a sugar sweet coda, all making for one hell of a three-minute ride.
“The song is about a character who is questioning the life they have been dealt,” Silverbacks explain. “They find themself in a near dystopian future where Dunkirk, despite its history, has become a built-up holiday destination for young families.”
Silverbacks play the Workman's Club, Dublin on August 6.
