Track Of The Day :: Sleep Eaters - Ghost On Fire
Words: Izzy Butler
If garage-rockers Sleep Eaters' ‘Ghost On Fire’ was a book it'd probably be called a 'good read'. As it's the debut single from the East London four-piece we'll say instead it is a two-minute-plus 'must listen'.
Released yesterday (June 26) through Strong Island Recordings, digitally and via a limited run of handmade tapes, the Hackney Wick outfit - which includes former members of the bands Whistlejacket and noisemakers Puffer - ‘Ghost On Fire’ was recorded with Euan Hinshelwood (of Younghusband).
It's a rousing garage-rock belter banger with a psychobilly impulse, driven by mosh pit-inducing guitars, an impetuous beat and a crazy rock 'n' roll vocal lead that you just know is going to cause mayhem live. Get on it below.
And to hear its live version, Sleep Eaters play a single launch show at Unit 18 in Hackney Wick for Bad Vibrations on July 7 (w/ The Rebel (Ben Wallers of Country Teasers) + The Honkies. They also have Portsmouth's Dials Festival lined up for October 6.
