The Newcastle-formed Reykjavik Kids have a particular penchant for dark intensity. And their new single lives up to the duo's - Scott Munro (vocals, guitar) and Paul Tissington (guitar, synths, bass) - way with post-punk electronica.
Self-released this Friday (May 10), 'Century' comes as their second single in two months after 'De Pasynuse', and marks Reykjavik Kids return with the first new material since 2017.
The track was self-recorded during a session in Newcastle, and mixed by Dave Newton in Los Angeles; inspiration for the lyrics, reveals Munro, derived from "pent-up anger with over the worst aspects of human life over the last century; creating chaos and social injustice through wars and greed, while consistently trashing the natural world."
The sombre lyrical tone on 'Century is matched by the icy components of searing guitar lines blended with electronic beats and synths, and Munro's unsparing vocal delivery. Surprisingly, however, 'Century' also comes over with a rhythm that works equally well as a drivetime partner, and a three minutes that could even possibly induce the listener onto the dance floor for.
