July 3 2015 - Hot Top Ten
TOPS - SLEEPTALKER
Montreal-based quartet with track from their 'Picture You Staring' album, which came out last year. Jane Penny's vocals stir dreamy haze over subtle arrangements.
THE TWOKS - DOONA
We're not exactly sure what a 'doona' is (guessing a quilt) but the Melbourne electric violin 'n' drums duo (Xani Kolac - electric violin, vocals, Mark Leahy - drums, percussion) have dedicated one side of their AA single to it, which came out on June 24.
NERVOSAS - PARALLELS
From their self-titled second LP, released on July 10 via Green Noise Records, the dark punk trio (Jeff Kleinman, Mickey Mocnik, Nick Schuld) from Columbus, Ohio pull out the stops with two minutes of aggressive rhythm, driving guitar and crashing cymbals.
KORAL & THE GOODBYE HORSES - PONY
Brooding blues rock lead single from the just released debut EP, 'Nocturnes', by this Adelaide outfit led impressively by Koral Chandler.
THE RUSSIAN WHITE - FABERGE
Dark, fairly heavy electro synth from Reading, Pennsylvania on this second single from the duo's (Tom Rhymer, vocals/synth/programming; Michael Colon, synth/keys) self-titled debut album, released June 30.
LUNA KINGS - OUT OF REACH
Plenty of twanging guitar riffs and 60s atmospherics captured here on the lead track from Leeds quartet Luna Kings' new EP, 'A Distant Summer'.
COMPNY - GENTLY LET YOU DOWN
Produced with Barny Barnicott (Peace, Bombay Bicycle Club, Arctic Monkeys), the new summery pop single from the south London outfit is out on August 7. The piano parts you hear were recorded on the public keys at London's St. Pancras station.
LUSHES - LOW HANGING FRUIT
Brooklyn two-piece rockers share track from their second 'Service Industry' album (recorded and mixed by Aaron Mullan (Sonic Youth) at Echo Canyon, with additional production from Jonathan Schenke (Parquet Courts), due October 16 via Felte Records. Deep, resonant vocal and deeper from James Ardery (guitar/vocals/synth) and drums/SPD-SX/piano/additional synth and vocals by Joel Myers.
LAST CHANCE CITY - RISING FLAMES
Isle of Wight electronic indie rockin' five-piece with latest single released last week. Follows their 'Five Tracks Later' EP, which came out at start of 2015.
THE AMAZING - SAFE ISLAND
Swedish psych pop five-piece share the video (shot in Birchington-On-Sea, Kent) for their eight-minute-plus third single from 'Picture You' album, out now via Partisan.
