Track Of The Day :: Abdomen - I Had Dreams

Words: Linn Branson

If you know your post-punk then it will come as probably no surprise to learn that Leeds-based Matt Peel, known for his work with Eagulls and a whole host of the UK's best of the genre, is in the producer's chair on 'I Had Dreams' by Dutch trio Abdomen.

The track is the third cut from the Leeuwarden band's - Peter van Beets (vocals, guitar), Redmer de Boer (bass), Roel Meijer (drums, backing vocals) -upcoming album, 'Etemophobia', released on September 14 via Dutch label Geertruida, and recorded at Peel's Leeds studio over the course of a month.

As you may expect, 'I Had Dreams' is dark, penetrating, hypnotic - Van Beets has just the right vocal tone for this sound  - and really stonking good. Peel knows his stuff and how to draw out the best in bands. Here he force feeds fuzz and feedback into a noise-rock ball that smacks you right in between the ears.

Martine Rademakers' animated visuals, below, accompany the track.

Catch Abdomen for an album launch show on September 14 at Podium Asteriks, Leeuwarden.
