Track Of The Day :: Sour - Oh No
Words: Linn Branson
They may now have a different name and a different sound, but their easily recognisable frontman gives the game away that the now three-piece Sour is no other than the former FREAK, led by Connar Ridd.
When they announced some months back that they were disbanding, many FREAK fans- who Little Indie broke in early 2016 as the then solo project of 18-year-old bedroom producer Ridd - were no doubt disappointed at the end of a unit who had spawned tracks such as 'What Happened?', 'No Money No Honey' and 'I Like To Smile When I'm Sad'.
Connar, however, had told Little Indie privately that it wasn't so much an end as more a metamorphosis, and indeed the Sour debut single just revealed, is certainly a departure from their old fuzzy indie punk material.
Taking influence from Rihanna, Troye Sivan and Britney Spears, and channelling a pop meets house/R&B approach, ‘Oh No'- released this week - is a meaty dancefloor banger helmed by its deep synth beats with Connar's echoing vocals taking on a sweet new direction. 'Oh No' gets an 'Oh yes' from us - it's a good 'un.
