Soft Wax make their debut with 'Dreaming'
Words: Ellie Ward
Formed in Faversham, Kent by Daniel Angove (vocals, guitar) and brother Christopher Angove (bass), Soft Wax released their debut single 'Dreaming' via 2728 Records yesterday (October 1), as a 7" vinyl and digitally on Spotify.
Evolving from a DIY bedroom project to a live outfit involving new members Kerry Edwards (drums) and Beau Bishop (guitar, backing vocals), 'Dreaming' adopts a mid-tempo, chilled kind of groove that layers soft poppy hooks around smooth synth interludes - and we're told the shaker in the solo on the track is actually an Oxo cube box with bits of broken spaghetti inside!
"Me and my brother wrote the song with a friend of ours," says Dan. "The original incarnation of the track started with a really gritty drum loop we loved the sound of. We essentially just built the track up from there. The only bit that was fairly unique in comparison was the solo part."
Lyrically, it deals "with the issue of having a relationship that you know is failing but are desperately trying to hold on to, out of habit more than anything," Dan adds. "I suppose the general tone becomes pretty obvious in the 'how can we keep this together?' bit."
Soft Wax play their maiden London show at Rye Wax, Peckham on October 31.
