Following their September debut single, 'Cute Aggression', New Zealand duo Holly Coogan and Tom Young, together as The Melancholies, return with the aptly titled 'Cool Magic'.
The atmospheric electronic number is driven by the eerie vocal delivery, accompanied by some hypnotic effects, that drew inspiration from the imagery of US filmmaker and author of Hollywood Babylon, Kenneth Anger.
"Holly showed me Kenneth Anger's films about a year ago," says Auckland-based Young, "and I was instantly mesmerised. We pretty much started writing music together after we put his films on repeat in the studio on mute; his work was hugely central to our formation. I guess in a way 'Cool Magic' is us really just describing how his work makes us feel."
