The debut full-length release by Norwegian pop artist Sigrid has been one long-anticipated in the strength of a succession of luminous singles.
'Sucker Punch', produced by Martin Sjølie, Odd Martin Skålnes, and Oscar Holter, is a confident, artistic work that shines in perfection from the expertly crafted opening title track - one described by the 22-year-old songstress as "fun" and one of her favourites - which takes a pop filled three minutes and fills out on pillowy synths and lush chorus; the layered intricacies of 'Don't Kill My Vibe', to heartfelt pop encapsulated in breakup number 'Don't Feel Like Crying', and the upbeat, strings enhanced new track 'Sight of You'.
The softer ballad 'In Vain' highlights another side to Sigrid, illuminating her voice in a more stripped back setting; while 'Strangers' - the first single to put Sigrid's name on the map - rises from its atmospheric opening and lines -“Just like in the movies/ It starts to rain, and we/ We’re the broken beauties” - to grow on chorus and synths.
With one mighty thump, 'Sucker Punch' with its strong 12 track collection, ensures Sigrid has definitely carved her name into the best debut albums roll.
