Lady Bird are flying high on 'LOVE'
Words: Ellie Ward
Kent trio Lady Bird follow previous singles ‘Spoons’, ‘Boot Fillers’ and ‘Reprisal’, with their first release of the year, ‘LOVE’, out via Girl Fight Records, the label run by their friends and local heroes Slaves.
Produced by Leigh Lawson, the opening chugging metallic riff, sends 'LOVE’ into life with an abrasive rush of melody and ragged punk attack. Frontman Sam Cox’s sneering and hyperactive vocal carries a lyrical eloquence (“Go through the motions based on emotions”) which addresses the fact that love isn’t necessarily the answer to all of life’s problems.
“LOVE is set in the ranks of a dysfunctional relationship, where we use this opportunity to nod at the wider narrative of love, which taps into our innate humanity and is manifest through a variety of ways and forms. In this sense it's not restricted to that of romance, and self-love for instance is a good example which takes its part in the tune,” says Cox.
