With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.



THE BABY BREAKS - ONE HANDED CLAP


Released April 6, Brisbane garage-rockers' debut single opens on twangy guirar before fast bringing in a sax that augments pounding drums, heavy bass riffs, and distorted vocals. “'One Handed Clap' was recorded live and is practically one take other than the fact we dubbed in extra guitar parts afterwards," reveals vocalist Mitchell Quinn. "I was on the tail end of bronchitis when we did it and decided to use it as an advantage for raw vocals.” Catch their single launch at Rics Bar in Brisbane on April 20.

SAHARA BECK - I HAVEN'T DONE A THING TODAY

The new breezy single from the Brisbane-based indie-pop artist pairs quirky pop with her impeccable songwriting that, recently won her the Queensland Music Award for Regional artis. Produced once more by Tony Buchen (Mansionair, Courtney Barnett), it's infectiously upbeat and follows on the heels of last summer's 'Here We Go Again'.

LEGS ELECTRIC - TUESDAY GIRL


Perth's four-piece rock girls follow their ‘Two Sides’ EP, with this new single released last week. Produced by Simon Hallett of heavy metal outfit Psychonaut, it's filled with sharp guitar riffs that encompass chugging rhythms, strong vocals from Ama Quinsee and glazed harmonies.

BLOOD BANK  - SHADOW BOXING


The post-punk five-piece from Brisbane, draw inspiration from the likes of a young U2, and it's not just discernible on this two and a half minute first offering of 2019 (after 2018's 'Far Gone') - out April 17 - in Peter Katsanevas' bassline, but also in Sam Pennisi's emotive and raw straining vocals.

LOUIS BAKER - THE PEOPLE


The Wellington, NZ singer-songwriter unveils this latest heart-felt, soulful, R&B-tinged anthem, which comes from his long-awaited debut album, 'Open', due out in June. Written in his home studio, the track was later brought to life in London, and produced by The Nextmen’s Brad Ellis (James Arthur, Jorja Smith).

GLOWING - SPIT TAKE

Adelaide's five-piece fuse traces of pop, indie rock and punk - all of which blend together to form an atmospheric and infectious style. This debut single, released last month, is an auspicious, entry, and Finn Cameron's voice is one to savour. Catch live ar Adelaide's Exeter Hotel on April 20.
