Best new tracks Down Under #21

With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.

BEL WOODS - RUNNING

Debut single from the Sydney-based alt-pop artist, released last week. The bouncy pop number, produced by multi-instrumentalist and Tales In Space frontman Luke Bertoz, is about "two people that have a kind affection for one another, they both want to move on, but can’t seem to stop the dysfunction of ‘running’ to and from each other," says Woods.

CRY CLUB - TWO HEARTS

Wollongong-via-Melbourne noisy queer pop two-piece - Heather on vocals and guitarist Jono - follow their anti-harassment statement 'DFTM', with this new Gab Strum (Japanese Wallpaper)-produced track. Detailing that loss of self preservation when you've fallen head over heels for someone you shouldn't, it could well be their breakout track.

GOODSIDE - I'VE BEEN FEELING SOMETHING LATELY

Debut release from Sydney dream-pop quartet, which will also feature on their debut EP, out later in the year. Infectious melodies with an alt-jazz haze, and shimmery guitars are helmed by Casey Logemann's standout voice. “When I wrote 'I’ve Been Feeling Something Lately', I was in a rut and had stopped playing music entirely," she explains. "I had this burst of excitement to write for the first time in years, it made me feel like myself again. I didn’t want to create pressure surrounding my creative process, I just wanted the music to be fun.”

After performing and collaborating with Kiwi psych-rockers Arthur Ahbez and Kelvin Hurts, the Auckland, NZ-based artist drops this solo project psych 'n' roll track, which is lifted from his just released debut album, 'Banana Sludge', out now via Australian Third Eye Stimuli label.

Preceding their forthcoming EP, the Sydney-based four-piece fuse a delicious summer blend of soul, indie-rock, blues, folk, and jazz, delivering with a pop-ish coating. Toe-tapping instrumentation and sultry vocal from James McDonald, lend a nostalgic feel.
