Track Of The Day :: Annabel Allum - When The Wind Stopped

Words: Sam Geary

Released last week, Annabel Allum shows off her rather excellent single cut from her second EP, due out later this year.

'When The Wind Stopped' is the on-the-rise Guildford slacker-pop songwriter's Courtney Barnett-styled
lyrical take on society's expectations.

"When I was a kid I had such big expectations of how life was gonna be. I think most people do," she says of the song, which is observantly detailed. "But somehow we lose track of our dreams and what we really want from life. It’s so easy to shut yourself in a societal box and put your dreams to bed. I say fuck that. If you want something, go fucking get it. Less moaning, more chasing."

There's an American feel to the standout 'When The Wind Stopped', which can only be to the good for breaking the American market.
