Track Of The Day :: Motel Carnation - Westside
Words: Sam Geary
Out today (June 28), newly formed Motel Carnation follow their recent debut single which Little Indie premiered, 'Saul', with new release
'Westside'.
The new project from members of the Newcastle music scene, Alexander Soper (Coquin Migale), Conor McBride (Deep.Sleep, Casual Threats) and Austin Tweddle (Scalesia), received over 3.5k online streams for 'Saul', and this latest track looks set to equal that.
Melodic indie-rock meets a pop-infused vibe, sealed with woozy guitar grooves and Soper’s seductively light vocal, to balance the darker lyrical theme which takes an introspective view on their personal experience in the cutthroat music industry.
"We took an honest and introspective look at our past experiences, addressing the idea of expectation vs reality within the industry and what it means to become 'That' band," explains Alex Soper on 'Westside'. "We explored the notion that perhaps the grass isn’t always greener but we wanted to celebrate the achievements of those around us as well as address the not so positive points when people often get caught up in it all."
