With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.
OK MOON - HOLLOW TREE
Following March’s debut single 'Loved You Right' and follow-up 'Harpoon', now the third single from the Sydney/ Central Coast collaborative project of Dustin Tebbutt, LANKS, Hayden Calnin and Xavier Dunn. A softly atmospheric track, expressively delivered vocals folded over percussion and synths.
THE VANNS - MOTHER
Recorded at Melbourne’s Head Gap Studio with Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy, Ali Barter) and mixed by Chris Collins (Gang Of Youths), and taken from their long-awaited debut album, the Wollongong four-piece offer an infectiously nostalgic slice of melodic indie rock and roll.
PARADISE CLUB - ABOVE ME
The Adelaide four-piece share another three and a half minutes of shimmery, shoegaze dream-rock. "It's about working extremely hard, feeling incredibly helpless, and learning how to give your everything to save a relationship, whether it be platonic or romantic," says vocalist Gere Fuss.
COLLARBONES - VOYEUR
Sydney/Adelaide duo, Marcus Whale and Travis Cook, released this new single on June 28, following 'The Gate', 'A.I' and 'Everything I Want'. In a combination of rhythms, layered harmonic vocals sit on top of electronic drums and bass that results in a unique electronica working.
PRISCILLA - FOLLOW
Crisp, shimmery electro-pop from the Perth duo, Luke Minness (keys) and Priscilla Gardner (vocals). Following 'Feeling Higher' from earlier in the year, this new track captures both the swiftness and sharpness of the lyrical theme of platonic love.
VERA BLUE - THE WAY THAT YOU LOVE ME
Sydney-based electronica songstress Celia Pavey returns with a new offering of electro-pop, over which her immaculate vocals soar around glitchy beats. The lyrics, she says, being inspired by "the experiences and behaviours of loving relationships with people coming in and out of my life. A kind of love that can be taken advantage of or returned in ways that might be difficult to understand at the time.” A name to keep an eye on.
