Wojtek the bear plan 'A long wait for bad news'

Words: Richard Cobb

Any band that shells out the big bucks to get a real A-lister in the form of Walford’s version of Kylie Jenner, Barry from Eastenders, aka actor Shaun Williamson, to announce their new single on Twitter, more than deserves page space.

In hindsight, perhaps Wojtek the bear’s latest release, ‘A long wait for bad news’ - out now via Scottish Fiction - needed no such introduction as it’s another solid effort from the Glasgow outfit who have had a busy old year up to this point.

“I’ve been thinking a lot recently about smartphones, technology, and social media," explains singer Tam Killean, citing the inspiration behind the track, which was produced by Jamie Savage at Glasgow’s Chem 19 studios.

"The song deals with how I’ve struggled to restrict myself from these things in an attempt to walk back from the insidious, awful effect it can have on our self-esteem and mental health.”

Managing to triumphantly find the elusive balance between musically uplifting and lyrically somber, it nestles nicely in a land of its own with its bipolar sound, and hints of early Snow Patrol and Twilight Sad.

The band have a few shows over the coming months, including one on a boat in Barcelona for those that want to get on board.
