Track Of The Day :: Dream Dali - Little Lights
Words: Izzy Butler
The enigmatic masters of dream psych and surrealism, Dream Dali, have dropped their new, equally splendiferous as their last, single 'Little Lights', which is out tomorrow (August 30).
Like the Brisbane-based trio's debut back in June, 'Hurt Me', this darkwave, reverbed follow-up, with its nods to The Cure and The Doors, also evokes an hypnotic, trance-like ambience, soaked with defined vocal melodies and a melancholic vibe.
“'Little Lights' comes from a personal experience in dealing with a challenging and dark time with a relationship," explains lead vocalist Aldous Emerson. "Lots of allegedly supernatural things were happening that caused a lot of issues with anxiety and trauma, but I always had hope. The Little Lights are the hope.”
The video clip for the track pays homage to the group's namesake Salvador Dali, with its use of found Dadaist clips to reflect the eerie, supernatural vibe of the song. The flashing lights and spooky, strange, out-of-context footage work seamlessly with the music to complement the mood.
You can catch Dream Dali live at Greaser Bar in Brisbane on September 4 for the Library Group Records BIGSOUND party.
“For this show we will have our synchronised black and white surreal footage and lights, along with a set of dreamy, but energetic songs. We hope to take you on a journey to a cave to see your spirit animal,” adds Emerson.
