Avalanche Party announce debut album + share opening track, 'El Dorado'

Words: Ellie Ward

Yorkshire's finest (after the tea!) Avalanche Party, have announced  the release of their debut album.

'24 Carat Diamond Trephine’ will arrive on November 22 on limited edition vinyl .

Ahead of release, the band unveil new track, the record opener, ‘El Dorado’. Something of a low-key puzzler this, sounding more like Nick Cave than the usual glorious, raucous mayhem the garage-punk quintet are known for. ‘El Dorado’ is instead a melancholic murder ballad, with lonesome keys and baritone vocal delivery.

“"El Dorado' is a magical place hidden in plain sight discovered by the Danish in glorious summer," they say. "When we wrote this we knew it was the beginning, the rush before takeoff. This would be the scene setter. Rolls and rolls of visions flung across the inner eye, of dancing Elephants and smoking turrets and choked air and we splatted them across the pages with the frenzy of a dog on fire...”

The album was recorded over the course of last December. Each day for a month (including Christmas Day) the band and an assortment of friends/collaborators crafted the tracks in a cold windowless room on the top floor above a social club in York called Young Thugs Studios.

Comprising of 11 tracks, they veer from the poetic and introspective to a ferocious barrage of explosive energy, they tackle themes of anger and fear, the capitalist machine that drives us ever closer to the great flaming End, cloak-and-dagger corporate greed, the environment, love, and death.
