Words: Linn Branson
This debut release from prettything came in too late to make our Track Of The Day today, but hell, we weren't going to let it get away. And once we saw the delightful Bella Venutti's name attached - it was a given for Track Of The Week!
Anyone who follows Little Indie will probably know we are a bit partial to Melbourne indies IV League - who released their last EP 'When You Lose Me' back in April - of which Ms Venutti forms one half. Now she has branched out with this new solo project, making its entrance here with debut single 'Endless Blue'.
Produced by Dean Tuza (Stella Donnelly), it is one of those dreamgaze spine-tinglers, that makes its mark in a determined, yet understated way, leaving Venutti's enchanting voice to transport you elsewhere on its gossamer-winged vulnerability.
The song, she says, was inspired by the past and the present:
"It's definitely influenced by 90s dream-pop and shoegaze, but my taste is very broad and I’d like to think that my sound is a pastiche of little bits and pieces of whatever inspires me, regardless of genre - literally everything from Nirvana to Disney Channel, original movie soundtracks to an unfortunate emo phase. I’ve always had an extremely broad palette and latch on to anything with a melody that catches me."
The first live show from prettything is on September 27 at The Workers Club in Melbourne w/ San Mei and Trace Decay.
