Best new tracks Down Under #42
With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.
YOUNG ROBIN - TROPICAL PUNCH
Following on from the band's earlier 'Spaces' single, the Perth indies share their vibrant new track. With its calypso rhythm, breezy vocals and a guitar line, the song fills out nicely with summery appeal. Catch live at Lucy's Love Shack in Perth on October 26.
LUCY HUNTER - REPLACE IT WITH BATTER
The Dunedin, NZ songstress - of the trio Opposite Sex - delivers a solo effort on this self-produced single, released earlier this month. Her tremulous voice lends a haunting quality to the synths and light beat. Catch live on tour with Ben Woods in NZ now.
THE PHAZES - ISLA
Produced by Birds Of Tokyo's Ian Berney, the Sydney rockers have released this energetic new single, after dropping their EP 'Manners'. Hard and fast, with a barrage of guitars and crushing beats and infectious chorus.
LOS PALMS - PARIS DAZE
Adelaide alt-desert-jungle four-piece, who formed earlier this year, precede their debut album (due early next year) with this self-produced four minutes of atmospheric ambience. Catch live at Exeter Hotel, Adelaide on November 15.
SHODDY - HIDING LIKE HADES
Released last week, grungy psychedelia from the Auckland, NZ group. Produced by Rohan Evans, and taken from their upcoming album 'Someday We’ll Fix It', due October 31, its deep psych vibe and reverbed Witchy Dugdale vocals add a touch of menace. Catch live for album release tour in NZ from October 31.
RIIKI - ONE DAY
The debut single from Wellington, NZ 20-year-old, Raquel Abolins-Reid. Driving beat and layered synths add to intriguing melodies and an enticing vocal, as lyrically it revolves around “desiring that one day something you really want will be right where you want it to be, whether that is a dream, goal or a person”.
