The Sydney-via-Wollongong-based DROVES made their debut last year with single release 'Time'. After following this with an EP, 'Bloodline', the group now drop the divine 'Retribution'.

Recorded with Cody Munro Moore's portable studio under a tram station, the song is riven with reverb-soaked guitars, urgent percussion, pulsing drums, and analogue synths, and Phil Spiteri’s baritone vocals mixed with layered chanting that embrace a darkness more akin to post-punk. 'Retribution' is a sterling example of how Australia is leading the way in the emergence of new-styled sounds.

"'Retribution' is the first instalment of many songs to come that challenge the established concept of society through an ironic blend of pop-hooks and dark imagery," says frontman Spiteri. "The song was inspired by the complete free rein that the rich are given to dig up and spit out the planet."

You can catch DROVES live on October 26 at Golden Age Cinema & Bar, Sydney, and on November 3 at The Old Bar in Melbourne.
