Track Of The Day :: The Burma - When You're Gone
Words: Charlie Emmett
This caught my attention largely due to Tony O'Donovan, who manages to carry the song at one lower vocal register for most of the three and a half minutes, but with occasional upward leanings to a near falsetto. Intriguing.
The song is the new single 'When You're Gone' - out today (January 24) - from Irish indie threesome, The Burma, and is taken from the Cork City-based band's upcoming EP, 'Sugar Moonlight'.
It makes a change to hear something from the Emerald Isle that's not dark or post-punk, or another Fontaines D.C. derivative. 'When You're Gone' moves at an easy, rhythmic pace with understated and compelling guitars (described by RTE 2FM's Dan Hegarty as "jangly guitar pop at its finest") to grab onto. Nice.
