With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.
BAKERS EDDY - T-SHIRT
Produced by Jon Grace (Dear Seattle, Northeast Party House, Dune Rats), Melbourne-via-Wellington, NZ pop-punks Bakers Eddy return with a new single, a full-on breakup anthem, that rocks right out of the blocks. “I wrote the song after a long-distance relationship came to an end," says lead singer Ciarann Babbington. "I was in the middle of that messy period where all you do is think of this person and you seem to forget why you fell apart. It’s me dealing with regret and trying to make sense of all these feelings and emotions.” Catch live in Oz from March 20.
VOIID - SOUR
Brisbane-based female punk foursome VOIID are back with a new, no-holds-barred track, from their third EP, due this June. Grunge melodics mix with distorted guitar riffs, slacker vocals, and lyrics which "touches on hard-hitting subjects such as dealing with sexual assault/abuse, being looked down on for your appearance and dealing with deteriorating relationships," explains drummer Jasmine Cannon.
THE ROCKEFELLER FREQUENCY - GOOD APPLES
Another Brisbane band The Rockefeller Frequency bring their energetic indie-rock to this track from their upcoming debut album, 'Chemicals', released March 16. "‘Good Apples’ is a redemptive tale fuelled by anxiety, loud guitars, and an uneasy sense of pending doom, that starts in a very dark place, with a protagonist that has basically given up on everything. He contemplates his endless mistakes and somehow figures out how his life could be worth living, and actively seeks it out. It’s not all bad in the end, which helps in relaying these types of stories. It’s positive, but you have to work through a lot of garbage to get there, just like real life," says vocalist Joshua Eckersley.
