With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.
CRAP DATE - 600 ABS
Don't be fooled by the first name of Auckland, NZ synth-pop duo Crap Date; as this new outing shows, they are anything but! Emerging last year with 'Genoa City Blues', Jamie Lee Smith (who co-penned Princess Chelsea's 'Cigarette Duet') and Marcel Bellvé (Lipsink) now offer this lush new track, with Jamie's velvet delight of a voice brushing over steady electronic beats. "The name comes from the idea of imaging 100 dudes with 6 packs. 'Thats 600 abs'." The duo head to Europe this summer.
SEASIDE - SHAME
The Byron Bay indie-rock quartet return with this latest self-produced new single. A dark slice of post-punk, fusing reverb-soaked guitars, steadfast drums and fuzz-laden bass entwine across three minutes-plus. “’Shame’ is about the people in power not listening to what we really need as a society, turning a blind eye when we need them most," states frontwoman Darcy Dexter. "It is a message that if we stand together, we are able to create a positive change."
THE LULU RAES - CANT RUN NO MORE
Sydney indie pop-rockers The Lulu Raes recently dropped this infectious new single, produced by the band themselves and mixed by Dylan Adams (DMA’s, Skegss, West Thebarton). Layered hooks, lush guitars and the endearing melodies of frontman Eddie Burton, the track builds effortlessly with its deftly arranged instrumentation. “’Can’t Run No More’ is about loving a person, but not being able to talk about it or fully comprehend the feelings, because the person is just one of those individuals who work so hard, accomplishes everything and seems a cut above regular people."
SALARYMEN - THAT MAN

Sydney's indie-rock duo Salarymen is the partnership of Renee de la Motte (vocals, bass) and Thomas Eagleton (vocals, guitar). This single, out on March 6, follows last November's debut single ‘Please', and highlights their sunny, jangly guitar, 60s-esque sound, complemented by catchy melodies and Renee's searing lead vocal. Catch live on March 20 at The Lansdowne in Sydney.
SPACEY JANE - SKIN
Perth four-piece Spacey Jane recently announced their debut album, 'Sunlight', is due on June 12 via AWAL.
Ahead of which comes this melodic new single, playing a winding instrumental backdrop against urgent, affecting vocals. The band head to the UK in May for a string of festival appearances, including The Great Escape, Live At Leeds, Dot To Dot, Hit The North and more, as well as two London headline shows.
GORDI - SANDWICHES
Sydney-based Sophie Payten, shares her new single 'Sandwiches', a soaring, post-new wave anthem, that deals with loss snd heartache, and is a tribute to her late grandmother, who, in Gordi’s words, was "a great feeder of people'." So when she fell ill, Gordi and her mother took it upon themselves to nourish the visitors gathered around her hospital bed. As they passed around sandwiches, 'someone called out that she was gone'. Touchingly bittersweet.
