Pizza Crunch Sing & Tell as they take their first bite with debut single 'Fraud'
New Scottish kids on the block, the Glasgow-based alt-rock/post-punk Pizza Crunch, have just made their impressive debut with the resounding 'Fraud', recorded in the city's 7 West Studios, and released late last month.
Who are you?
I'm Ewan Hearns and I play guitar and sing on Pizza Crunch. The rest of us are Nathan Stokoe who plays guitar, Ewan Nicholson on drums. and Craig McDermott our bass player.
Tell us something about yourself and how you came to be where you are today.
Me, Nathan and Nico all met at university in Glasgow through a mutual interest for indie music, and I met Craig in Inverness and we proceeded to mess around with songs together. The four of us regularly practice in Glasgow.
Give us an idea of your musical style and influences.
Influences range from folk to rock. Bands we all appreciate include Arctic Monkeys, The Cure, Orange Juice and Pulp. We are also heavily influenced by the Glasgow scene with bands like Gallus and Pleasure Heads smashing it at the minute.
Explain the production and writing process behind your songs.
Often I write the lyrics on an acoustic guitar and take the basic song to the group. Another route we take sometimes involves Nathan writing some guitar parts then I'll write the lyrics to the tune. After we put the song together and play live a few times, we take it to the studio to record. At least that's what happened with our debut single
Tell us a little about your new single.
It was written about leaving student life and being stuck in the lull between uni and work. Basically about being idle and not knowing what to do with yourself.
Can we catch up with you at any forthcoming live shows?
We are supporting The Velvet Hands on their UK tour at The Priory in Glasgow on the 28th of March for This Feeling.
How's the first year of the new decade looking, plans-wise?
We are hoping to get into the studio in May to record two new songs. And then maybe do a single launch at a Glasgow venue.
Where can we hear more of your music?
We have the single on Spotify and SoundCloud, and an acoustic song, 'Battered Mind', on SoundCloud, but other than that you'll have to wait till summer.
What social media platforms can we find you on?
