Baby Queen makes her debut with ‘Internet Religion’

Words: Ellie Ward

South African-born, now London-based Bella Latham is the Baby Queen who has just unveiled her debut single on Polydor Records  ‘Internet Religion’.

The song, she says, is about how social media affects how we see ourselves. “I hate the way that is so easy to control your identity online and you become so obsessed with who you are online and how many people are liking your pictures.”

It is something Baby Queen writes from her own personal experience. “I started to write bitterly about the world that I had perceived whilst being here in London, and the way that it had changed me, and the narcissist I had become," she says. "I got obsessed with these identities that we cultivate online; the front stage self and the backstage self, who you actually are and who you pretend to be."

'Internet Religion’ is a melodically poppy, upbeat number that while conveying observations of today's online culture, is infectiously likeable and signals a sharp focus from the new voice of Baby Queen.
