Track Of The Day :: Johnny Hunter - Hollow Man
Words: Linn Branson
Australia's quickly rising post-punks Johnny Hunter follow up the excellent 'Try As You May', with new single, 'Hollow Man', out today, June 12.
The Sydney-based band - who are gearing up for the August release of their EP 'Early Trauma' - build on their previous tight, wiry sound with a profusion of guitar driven melodies and sharp percussion, and helmed by the unmistakable vocal urgency expressed in Nick Hutt's baritone delivery.
Clocking in at just over three minutes, ‘Hollow Man’ is, say the band, "a commentary on the moral hypocrisy we face as natural born hedonists. As virtue is put aside in the name of personal gratification, to aid our egos we become the same in our quest for acceptance and in doing so, lose who we truly are - eventually becoming hollow men.”
Unlike its title, there is nothing hollow about this track, and the nervy energy that Johnny Hunter exude adds to its driving post-punk authenticity.
