The Rills get serious on new banger 'The Angler'

Words: Izzy Butler

Released last Friday, The Rills have unveiled their latest single, 'The Angler'.

As singer Mitch Spencer came to our notice a few weeks ago when he performed solo for the Sucker Music Week Festival, we wanted to check out this new single as he had mentioned the alt-indie punk London-via-Lincoln trio had some new tunes.

‘The Angler’ is a kick-ass sort of track, that ricochets off a wave of drums, punishing bass and snappy lead guitar to make a mosh-pit banger, yet at the same time Mitch’s fast-paced vocal delivery is steady and not overly bombastic.

“I wanted the song to feel ironically triumphant," he says. "This guy, ‘The Angler’, genuinely thinks he’s a hero, a master of his game out on the pull. But in reality, behind the desperate dance-floor exchanges and sycophantic facade, he’s got some serious issues with his identity.”

The Rills tell it!
