Introducing :: LUVV

LUVV aren't giving much away at this juncture. Formed last summer, the four-piece Cardiff-based band of Welshmen, are playing a low profile game before they fully launch themselves. "We feel that bands are too quick to give away everything in this day and age," states bass player Ben, when contacted to proffer a few words.

What we found out is that the gang of four were friends for a number of years before joining forces after leaving other outfits, after deciding "this was just the right time to get together and play." With influences ranging from Joy Division, The Chameleons, Public Image Ltd. to Bauhaus, Blitz and Fucked Up, their own musical style "would probably fall under the umbrella of post-punk."

As to that, the first taste of which, 'More', is now streaming online, together with 'Us' and 'What You Need' for you to judge for yourselves. In keeping with the punk ethic, 'More' is essentially, Ben explains, "about the contempt we feel for modern day society and the frustrations that a person might face living in the UK at this moment in time."

The earlier tracks were released on cassette tape, 'One' which is now sold out in physical form. 'More' will feature on their second release on tape, called - would you believe, 'Two'. Limited to 100 copies, its online release is March 17.

Still only having played live three times to date, we can't say how effective LUVV are in cutting it in front of an audience, but if their stage presence can augment their punk sound - which we are liking lots - then we could be soon truly loving LUVV.

If you're in Cardiff, check out some LUVV for yourself on March 14 when they play a release show for 'Two' at the city's Undertone venue.

LUVV are: Matt - vocals, guitar; Sami - lead guitar; Ben - bass; Rich - drums.
