Introducing :: Savage Sister
Dreamwave doesn't get any more chilled or blissed-out than it does with Savage Sister. Belying their name, there is nothing more 'savage' here from the Chicago threesome than a striking synth.
Starting out in 2012 as a four-piece in St. Louis, Missouri - headed up by guitarist Michael Tenzer and drummer Nicholas Piontek, with bassist Jamie Kerry and vocalist Kate Gettinger - they released their debut 'Legs' EP in August of that year, before splitting in September the same year.
Moving to Chicago in that November, Tenzer started to reimagine the band, and in March 2013 met vocalist Chloe Lundgren. The two began working on songs for what would be their debut EP; and after bringing in bassist Caitlin Klask in May, the trio released the self-titled work in June 2013.
For 2014 they have collaborated with Chicago-based experimental artist Lykanthea (Lakshmi Ramgopal) on the four-track EP "sundrowned", which was released in January, as well as recorded a cover of Low's 'Over The Ocean'.
'sundrowned' dwells in ambient sonic depths; somewhere in a world betwixt awake and asleep. 'Naked's echoes of ghostly voices perhaps epitomizes the record's entirety which is vocally and lyrically hard to place or decipher, but something just to nestle into without too much examination.
Due out on February 18 is their latest five- track EP, 'Wild Sleep' - written, produced and arranged by Tenzer. Unveiling one track so far, 'Champagne Panthers', there appears a darker, piercing, coldwave vibe has taken over in the almost six-minute piece - which may, or may not, be indicative of the other unheard four. We await to hear.
Savage Sister are: Chloe Lundgren - vocals; Caitlin Klask - bass; Michael Tenzer - synths/drum machine.
