Track Of The Day :: Lost Winter - Footsteps In The Sand

We first came across Huddersfield electro-synth outfit Lost Winter during last autumn upon hearing 'Guide Book Sarcasm', a track from their 'Summer' EP which had just been released. And although we liked that enough to include it in our hit top ten of the week, this new track from them warrants its own special marker.

'Footsteps In The Sand', taken from their new EP 'Spring', which came out last week (April 16), is one of those songs of simplistic beauty that can't fail but to grab the attention - not least due to Charlotte Francis' subtle vocal which much in the way of London Grammar, BIRD and Lionhall, has a spellbinding quality that transcends lyrics, and would be just as stunning without even any musical accompaniment.

Lost Winter formed at the end of 2012 by Richard Westwood, "a bored guitarist living in West Yorkshire", and by the spring 2013 Lost Winter had been joined by vocalist Charlotte of the Leeds-based Rhythm Aire band. Richard and Charlotte first met at university but didn’t start writing music together until later. They were then joined by Glass Harbours’ member Richard Flynn on bass guitar.

The original idea behind Lost Winter was a simple one: to release four DIY EPs with the help and support of friends, musicians, artists and designers. Each EP would be released during a season of the year: the first 'Winter' EP appeared in the winter of 2013, followed by the 'Summer' EP in September 2013, and now in 2014, 'Spring'.
