First Listen :: Black Linen
Black Linen came out of the blue to us by way of an email from someone named Randy. Now chances are with that name they will be American, but other than that there was little to go on bar the links to the two tracks below.
Some scouting around and a little listening discovered that whilst the name may suggest a different style of music to what they actually play - not heavy rock, but more 60s-chilled, multi-influenced vibing with big strings and funky guitar licks - but they certainly were from the US of A.
Randy turns out to be Randy Michael, guitarist with Black Linen, a new band made up of ex-members of the Atlanta-based 60s garage band The Booze, who released four albums before breaking up in 2011. Randy then moved to LA playing with the likes of The Living Things, Pyyramids, Curtis Harding and also a stint on drums in David Bowie's band. Moving back to Georgia last year he formed Black Linen with drummer Pietro DiGennaro, also formerly of The Booze.
Now, having just completed their debut album, 'Black Linen/White Noise' which they are self-releasing, two tracks 'Go Easy' and 'Mental' are streaming online.
