[Video] Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - As Always

Sometimes you can watch a video because it plays as an adjunct to a track, or watch because it actually enhances the song. This video by the East Coast folk rockers Clap Your Hands Say Yeah for new album track  'As Always', directed by David M. Helman, goes both ways. Not only do you want to watch all the way through to see what happens (and what happens is not what you might be expecting here), but the track itself is also worth the listen.

Fostered from his love of uncompromising songwriters such as John Cale, Bob Dylan and Tom Waits, lead vocalist Alex Ounsworth believes in an artist's creative control. "Some people seem surprised when you shift gears aesthetically between records, but to me that's the point," he says. "We have a responsibility as musicians to take chances. There is a reason I have all of Tom Waits' albums, for example:  I believe in him."

'Only Run' aims to loosely document Ounsworth's observations of his life in music over the last 10 years. "Lately, I've been assaulted by news, both distant and near, that suggests a certain sense of frustration," he says. "But Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - the entire concept of the band, the name itself - is about balancing optimism in the face of overwhelming odds. I'm coming around to this myself - finding that renewed sense of optimism."

Following the success of Alec’s sold out UK/EU Living Room Tour this month (which finishes in London tonight) in which Alec has performed solo at intimate and informal gigs in fans’ living rooms – plans are afoot to return to UK and Europe in October with the full band for a headline tour.
