Introducing :: Jekyll

Following in the sandy footsteps of Darlia, Jekyll, a young four-piece, also hail from the northern beach resort of Blackpool (or Thornton Cleveleys if you want to be pedantic). And whilst they describe themselves on their Facebook as a 'rock' band, we would say there is less rock than there is budding indie. They have certainly perfected the moody indie look and carefully crafted hair, anyway.

Despite looking incredibly young, it seems 'I Do What I Can' is the lead track from Jekyll's debut EP and which they are now putting ouf as a single. There are some nice twangy guitar riffs here - which bear some resemblance to the Northampton band Jubilee Courts - and whilst the vocal really comes over to best effect halfway through the song, there's enough in 'I Do What I Can' to warrant going back for second or third helpings.

Jekyll formed around three years ago, firstly as a three piece when Joel and Lewis met at the local high school. Liam - Lewis' cousin - was then later drafted in to bang the drums. After gigging locally as a three-piece, they then last year brought in Jonny after meeting him while in Sixth Form at school (told you they looked young!) and Jekyll took on its present form.

After spending much of 2013 working on tracks, they released first demos late in the year which quickly brought them to the attention of BBC Introducing, resulting in their gaining regular airplay.

As for how the name 'Jekyll' came to be, according to the band it derives "from a literary reference to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and its narrative of split personality we thought appropriate for our music; melodic with a melancholic undertone."
